GCSE Chemistry · Edexcel 1CH0 · Topic 5B
Quantitative analysis
Key points
- Percentage yield = . Yields are below 100% because of incomplete reactions, losses when separating and side reactions.
- Atom economy = . High atom economy means less waste.
- Higher tier: concentration in mol dm⁻³ = moles ÷ volume in dm³.
- Core practical: acid–alkali titration with a pipette, burette and indicator; repeat to get concordant results within 0.10 cm³.
- Higher tier: molar gas volume is 24 dm³ at room temperature and pressure, so moles of gas = volume (dm³) ÷ 24.
- Use balanced equations and moles to calculate volumes of gases and concentrations from titrations.
